Tim David credits RCB training drill for giant six against CSK: “We compete to hit the roof

Tim David hit a 106-metre six against Chennai Super Kings in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s second match of the Indian Premier League 2026. According to him, it was a result of the training drill as the franchise batters compete to hit the roof of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during net sessions.

David’s big hit became one of the talking points of the ongoing 19th season of the tournament. He explained how training helps him to execute strokes during the matches. RCB’s batting coach Dinesh Karthik also highlighted the importance of repetition in power-hitting.

“I often get in trouble while training with the boys. We have a competition to hit the deliveries on the roof from the side pitches. It was nice to hit one out of the ground during the match. Jamie was bowling quick and it was fun to get one on the roof,” David said.

David’s knock was the defining moment of the match in Bengaluru. The stage was set for him after Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar dominated the CSK bowlers. The Aussie batter scored an unbeaten 70 runs off 25 balls, laced with 8 sixes and 3 fours.

His sensational hitting, including g 30 runs off a single over from Jamie Overton, took RCB’s total to 250 for 3 before dismissing CSK for 207.

David’s batting was an exhibition of power-hitting. He targeted all parts of the ground and capitalized on the errors of the bowlers during the death overs.

The fans celebrated his 106-metre six and it put Chennai Super Kings on the back foot. The right-handed batter was lucky as he was dismissed on a no-ball. Karthik called David a natural striker of the ball.

It is just the kind of start RCB were looking at in IPL 2026, and the team management would hope to see Tim David playing a few more match-innings.
