Tamim Iqbal has been appointed as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, following the dissolution of the previous committee led by Aminul Islam. The Bangladesh government gave the responsibility of leading cricket in the country to the 37-year-old Tamim, who is the youngest president in the history of BCB and will lead the ad-hoc committee of 11 members.
Former Bangladesh captain Minhajul Abedin and ex-cricketer and TV commentator Athar Ali Khan are also part of the panel. Fahim Sinha, Rashna Imam, Mirza Yeasir Abbas, Israfil Khasru, Tanjil Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam and Syed Ibrahim Ahmed are the other members.
The decision-makers took the call on the recommendations of the five-member investigation committee, which prepared a report on the shortcomings in the BCB elections last year.
The investigation committee revealed the findings during its meeting with the sports ministry. Aminul Ehsan, who is the sports director at the National Sports Council (NSC), mentioned that the previous board was not formed properly and was not functioning properly.
“We have informed the ICC about the outcome. The board of directors was not functioning properly,” Aminul Ehsan said. He is confident that the ICC would support the decision.
Aminul Islam was not willing to part ways despite the report submitted by the probe committee.
The BCB was under pressure over the fairness of the previous elections. Bangladesh had opted out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 after the ICC refused to shift their matches from India to Sri Lanka.
Four directors of the BCB resigned last week, taking the overall tally to six since January.
Tamim represented Bangladesh in 70 Tests, 243 ODIs and 78 T20Is.
