Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan has confirmed that skipper Shubman Gill will return for the upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2026. The contest is scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 8.
Gill was ruled out of the previous game against the Rajasthan Royals due to muscle spasm, ending his 1,468-day stint without missing a match in IPL for the team. Rashid Khan led the team in his absence, but the Titans suffered a 6-run defeat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Neck spasms have impacted the star player since the Test season in 2025-26. Sudharsan mentioned that his opening partner has recovered and is set to return to the playing XI.
“Shubman Gill will play tomorrow as he has recovered and is good to go,” Sudharsan said in the pre-match press conference.
Former West Indies captain Jason Holder has a chance to play his first game in the 19th season as the pitch in Delhi is expected to favor the batters. However, there is a possibility of thunderstorms around 4 pm, which may leave some moisture on the track. This could aid fast bowlers at the start before conditions become good for the willow holders.
Delhi Capitals have won two matches and are fourth in the standings, while Gujarat Titans occupy ninth spot and will be keen to win their first match.
Gujarat players haven’t been able to handle the rival spinner, and Ravi Bishnoi’s four-wicket spell exposed their weakness in the batting department.
With Gill returning and conditions set to favor the stroke makers, both franchises will aim to dominate the proceedings.
Delhi have a better chance to continue their unbeaten run, considering the form of their players and home advantage. Axar Patel has been impressive as a captain for the Delhi-based franchise.
