Shreyas Iyer’s sister, Shresta Iyer, is in the news for taking a playful dig at the Kolkata Knight Riders following the rain-affected encounter with the Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens. Her cheeky remark quickly caught attention and spread widely across social media. Monday’s IPL 2026 clash was halted after just 22 balls due to rain, resulting in both teams sharing a point each as KKR opened their tally and PBKS moved to five points.
Following the washout, Shresta uploaded an Instagram reel that went viral instantly, where she was heard joking in Punjabi. “Saade Punjabiyan da dil vadda hunda hai, lo de ditta ek point,” which translates to Punjab having a big heart and giving away one point.
The post was seen by many as a subtle jab at KKR, particularly in light of their previous association with Shreyas, who captained the side to the IPL title in 2024 before parting ways with the franchise.
Weather conditions played a major role in Kolkata, with persistent rain and a soggy outfield stopping the match. KKR were struggling at 25/2 after 3.4 overs. Despite waiting, no further action was possible, leading to the first washout of the season.
Earlier in the game, Punjab Kings made an impressive start with the ball after Ajinkya Rahane opted to bat first. Xavier Bartlett struck early, dismissing Finn Allen for 6 and Cameron Green for 4, putting immediate pressure on KKR. Rahane remained unbeaten on 8, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi was on 7 when play was stopped.
Although KKR managed to get their first point after consecutive defeats, they are still searching for their first win of the campaign. Meanwhile, PBKS have five points from three matches, having recorded two wins and one no-result. Looking ahead, KKR will face Lucknow Super Giants on April 9, while PBKS are set to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11 in Mullanpur.
