IPL 2026: MS Dhoni’s availability uncertain as he might skip more matches, CSK fans anxious

Chennai Super Kings are yet to open their account in IPL 2026. Under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy, the five-time champions have lost their first three matches and find themselves at the bottom of the points table. Following a disappointing 2025 season, CSK’s struggles have continued, with top-order failures and the absence of former captain and iconic wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni compounding the issues. The 44-year-old has been sidelined with a calf strain, missing the opening matches.

Fans, who were hoping for MS Dhoni’s return, have received some bad news. According to Cricbuzz, Dhoni is expected to miss CSK’s next match against Delhi Capitals on April 11 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He is still undergoing rehabilitation and will need at least another week to be fully match-ready. CSK are optimistic about having him back for their clash with the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 18.

South African batter Dewald Brevis is also injured. However, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that Brevis’ condition is improving.

“MS is currently in rehab, and it’s difficult to say how long he will take. We’re hoping Brevis will be ready for the next match, but it will depend on his recovery. Thankfully, we have a few days break before the next game,”  Kasi said.

Head coach Stephen Fleming previously stated that Brevis is close to full fitness and is likely to play against Delhi Capitals. With key players sidelined, CSK are facing tough times in the 19th season and will be hoping to turn things around once Dhoni and Brevis return to strengthen the squad.

“We’re hopeful he’ll be fit for the next match. With five days before the game, we’ve taken a cautious approach and are optimistic that everything goes according to plan and he’s ready. It’s a significant loss, but we’re looking forward to having him back,” Fleming said after CSK’s defeat to RCB.
