Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been punished by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a slow over-rate offence in the IPL 2026 match against the Delhi Capitals. He was fined INR 12 lakh. This was GT’s first offence of the season and he is the second skipper after PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer to get sanctioned by the officials.
Gujarat won the game by 1 run in the last over. DC needed 13 runs in 6 deliveries, and Shubman handed the ball to Prasidh Krishna, who kept his nerves under control and ensured the success of his team despite the presence of David Miller in the middle.
“Gujarat Titans (GT) Captain Shubman Gill has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 14 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi,” the IPL said in a statement.

If the Gujarat Titans repeat the offence, Gill’s fine will be doubled. Coming back to the match, it was a thriller and probably the best contest of the 19th season so far. The equation was 2 runs off 2 balls, but Miller refused to take a single to avoid Kuldeep Yadav from facing the last delivery. The move backfired as South Africa batter failed to connect the sixth ball of the over and Kuldeep was run out by wicket-keeper Jos Buttler. The result was heartbreaking for the Capitals as they had the chance to tie the game, but Miller’s mistake proved costly in the end.
Gill made an impressive return to the Playing XI, amassing 70 runs off 45 balls, including 5 sixes and 4 boundaries. Buttler and Washington Sundar scored fifties for the visiting side to take the score to 210/4.
KL Rahul led the batting charts, posting 92 runs, but his contribution was not enough as Rashid Khan’s three wickets put DC under pressure. Although Miller faced 20 balls to score 41 not out, his effort went in vain.
