Prabhsimran Singh differs from Rohit, Hardik on Impact Sub rule, calls MS Dhoni his inspiration

Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh has spoken in favor of the Impact Sub Rule in the Indian Premier League, calling it helpful for the young cricketers. He also named former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni as his wicket-keeping inspiration.

The 25-year-old has been sensational for PBKS and has contributed to their success in the tournament. He feels the Impact Rule has opened up opportunities for the young guns.

“For me, the Impact Sub Rule has resulted in more chances for the young players, and I said this several times in the past. Many are not in favour of it. It allows a team to take high-risk calls when a batter or bowler is added to the team,” Prabhsimran said.

“It is invaluable for the young players. I have been with Punjab for eight years. I didn’t get many chances for four years, but now with the Impact Sub rule in place, the opportunities have increased for the young players,” he added.

Leading Indian players have criticized the rule. Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Shubman Gill are not in favour of the rule as it impacts the growth of all-rounders.

KL Rahul, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan are some of the leading Indian wicket-keepers, but  Prabhsimran follows MS Dhoni closely.

“All of them are my seniors, and they have different styles. I have watched Mahi bhai’s keeping, and his hands are fast. I don’t copy anyone in batting, but when it comes to keeping, I try to be like Mahi bhai,” he revealed.

He highlighted the change in approach in T20 cricket. “The game has become fast, and the 200-plus scores are becoming the norm. I feel a team has to do well in the powerplay overs to post 200-plus. Clarity is needed from the team management. When you are going for a big total, you have to bat aggressively,” he highlighted.

He opined on Team India’s chances. “You have to give consistent performances to stand a chance of playing for India. The competition is immense, but I will have to keep raising the bar,” he concluded.
