Finn Allen’s dismissal in the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Lucknow Super Giants match in IPL 2026 sparked controversy at the Eden Gardens on April 9. Digvesh Rathi caught Allen, and some fans and cricket experts felt that the fielder’s shoe touched the boundary rope after he completed the catch.
The incident occurred in the second over of the KKR innings when the opening batter couldn’t time the shot on Prince Yadav’s delivery. The ball went towards the third man boundary, where LSK spinner Rathi completed the catch. The third umpire didn’t take much time in checking the foot of the fielder, and the decision was questioned on social media.

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) cricketer Shreevats Goswami was convinced that Allen was not out as the fielder had touched the rope after grabbing the ball.
“That looked like a six isn’t it? Clearly, the foot touched the advertising board and could see it moving,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

🚨 A CONTROVERSIAL DECISION BY UMPIRE 🚨
Digvesh Rathi catch Finn Allen in boundary line. It’s clearly touch his feet in boundary line. But umpire gives out. Clearly not out. Om field Umpire should sent this decision to third umpire. Poor Umpiring. pic.twitter.com/xLK9btwoYv
