Former spinner Ravichandran Ashwin hailed 21-year-old LSG batter Mukul Choudhary after he led his franchise to a three-wicket win over the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2026. Lucknow Super Giants were almost out of the contest, with 64 runs needed from the last 4 overs. However, Mukul, who scored an unbeaten 54 runs off 27 balls, changed everything. He struck 7 sixes and 2 boundaries in his match-winning knock and dominated the KKR bowlers.
Ashwin took to social media to praise the young batter for his destructive batting and mentioned that such players allow India to dominate the shortest format in international cricket.
“Mukul Choudhary was fabulous last night. Guess who were in the bidding war with @LucknowIPL Surprise surprise it was @rajasthanroyals, well done LSG to secure a player who looks promising and beyond. The composure Mukul showed towards the end defines the IPL in many ways, it’s allowing India to quickly run away with the T 20 format itself. The kind of batting quality India will be able to throw into these T20 World Cups is scary to say the least.#ipl2026”, Ashwin wrote.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) head coach Justin Langer called him an athlete with a sharp brain, comparing him to Virat Kohli, Tim David and Andre Russell.
“Mukul is a real athlete and runs like Virat Kohli between the wickets. There are finishers like Tim Davids and Andre Russells. I am not comparing him with them, but he has the talent to finish games like some of the renowned names. He is curious and wants to know all about the game. We have kept him busy with drills, and he is working on his weaknesses,” he said.
“His parents must be proud of him as he did really well for us. India have unbeliveable talent, and the credit goes to our scouts for finding some of the best players for us,” he added.
