Sanju Samson roars back to form, scores a hundred in CSK vs DC match

Sanju Samson finally ended his rough patch in the Indian Premier League 2026, scoring a hundred against the Delhi Capitals at the franchise’s home ground on April 11. After failing in three successive games, the right-handed returned to form in front of one of the best sides in the 19th season of the tournament. Samson’s century came in 52 balls, laced with 14 boundaries and 3 sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of over 190. He added over 100 runs with Ayush Mhatre for the second wicket.

Samson has taken his hundred count in the IPL to four, with the first three coming for the Rajasthan Royals. Sanju has hit 26 half-centuries in the tournament. He was with the RR for years before deciding to leave and join the five-time champions. Samson completed the INR 18-crore move before the mini auction, with Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran becoming a part of Rajasthan in return.

In the first match of the new edition, he was dismissed for 6. The wicket-keeper batter then managed 7 and 9 runs against the Punjab Kings and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, respectively.

However, he returned to his best in the home game with the Capitals. Samson was in sensational touch before IPL 2026. He scored over 300 runs in India’s winning campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He was named the Player of the Tournament for his three-match winning innings in the Super 8 match against the West Indies, the semi-final against England and the final in front of the New Zealand team.

With Samson’s ton, Chennai would be hoping to see similar outcomes in the remaining games. CSK are tenth in the points table, and they need contributions from Sanju to save their season.

He is being tipped as a replacement for MS Dhoni, who is likely to retire after the ongoing season.
