After US-Iran Ceasefire, Babar and Labuschagne Release Dove Prior to PSL Showdown

Pakistan is celebrating after playing a role in the US-Iran ceasefire. A dove was released before the PSL 2026 match between  Peshawar Zalmi and Hyderabad Kingsmen on  Wednesday, April 8.

Babar Azam, who is leading Zalmi and Kingsmen skipper Marnus Labuschagne were involved in the gesture alongside the chairman of PSL, Salman Naseer. The announcement was made by former Pakistan women’s player  Urooj Mumtaz.

“Pakistan takes pride in playing its part in furthering world peace. As a powerful symbol of world peace.  I would like to introduce the two captains, Marnus Labuschagne and Babar Azam, along with PSL CEO Salman Naseer. To mark the powerful symbol tonight, we will be releasing a beautiful white dove,” Mumtaz said.

Earlier, Pakistan achieved a breakthrough by mediating the ceasefire between the US and Iran.  US President Donald Trump has threatened to hit Iran with full force if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened and gave a 48-hour deadline to Iran. Pakistan managed to convince both countries for de-escalation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged Trump to agree to a two-week deadline. Trump gave his nod to the formula, with Washington and Tehran agreeing to hold conversations for a permanent solution. Iran also said that it could conditionally reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which handles 20 percent of the global supply of oil and gas.

Meanwhile, Zalmi defeated Kingsmen by four wickets in the last ball. Iftikhar Ahmed took 4 wickets and conceded 21 runs in four overs. He got rid of Maaz Sadaqat, Saim Ayub, Sharjeel Khan and Usman Khan, with Kingsmen reaching 145 in 20 overs.

Chasing 146, Babar scored 43 but lost six wickets for 125 in 18 overs. Iftikhar rescued his team, scoring an unbeaten 15 off 10 balls.
