CSK vs DC Match 18: Key player battles to watch out for in IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Match 18 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday, April 11.

CSK urgently need a win to revive their 2026 campaign. They are currently sitting at the bottom of the points table, having lost all three of their initial matches. Their latest defeat came in the form of a 43-run loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as they failed to chase down a challenging target of 251.

In contrast, DC head into this match after suffering their first loss of the IPL 2026. They were narrowly beaten by one run in a thrilling contest against the Gujarat Titans, failing to chase down 13 runs in the final over, even though the equation was reduced to two runs off two balls.

Both CSK and DC boast experienced T20 players in their squads. CSK, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, have an impressive batting lineup that has yet to hit top form this season. They will be up against a DC bowling attack that has impressed in the early part of the campaign.

DC’s batters will face a CSK bowling unit that has yet to make a significant impact this season. However, players such as KL Rahul, Pathum Nissanka, and Sameer Rizvi have been in strong batting form.

Here are three key player matchups to watch for in CSK vs DC, Match 18 of IPL 2026:

KL Rahul vs Khaleel Ahmed

KL Rahul has had some difficulties against left-arm pacers in the past, and he will face another challenge when he comes up against Khaleel Ahmed early in his innings. The two have faced off seven times in the IPL, with Rahul managing to score 51 runs at a strike rate of 130.76. Khaleel has dismissed Rahul once in their matchups.

Although this face-off hasn’t occurred too frequently in the IPL, it could become a pivotal moment in the middle overs on Saturday.

Shivam Dube vs Kuldeep Yadav

Shivam Dube is known for targeting spinners, even with the field spread out. He has faced Kuldeep Yadav for just seven balls, managing five runs. Kuldeep has claimed three wickets so far this season but has struggled with an economy rate of 9.45, his highest in the IPL.

Sanju Samson vs Axar Patel

Axar Patel often bowls in the powerplay to trouble aggressive opening batters. However, Sanju Samson has struggled in his early CSK career, scoring just 22 runs in three innings.

Axar will look to capitalise on Samson’s struggles. In 12 IPL innings, Samson has only managed 70 runs at a strike rate of 111.11 against Axar. Axar has dismissed Samson twice, making this matchup one to watch closely.
