IPL 2026: Mumbai Indians dismiss threat of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of RR match

The IPL 2026 clash between the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals is set for Tuesday in Guwahati, featuring two former champions. While both teams have quality squads filled with star players, a key contest drawing attention is the face-off between young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Vaibhav has made headlines with his attacking batting over the past year, but going up against the world’s top-ranked pacer presents a far tougher challenge.

Speaking ahead of the match, Mumbai Indians coach Paras Mhambrey downplayed the excitement around Sooryavanshi. He pointed out that the youngster has been in the spotlight for quite some time, meaning there is no real element of surprise in his game for MI to worry about.

“To begin with, Vaibhav isn’t a  is not new. He’s in his second season now, so there’s nothing unfamiliar about him,” he said.

“We are aware of his quality, so we’ll approach him the same way we prepare for any other player,” he added.

However, Mhambrey did acknowledge his performances, calling them impressive and well-aligned with the role entrusted to him by the team.

Rajasthan also head into the fixture with Ravi Bishnoi in good touch. However, Mhambrey dismissed the idea that Bishnoi brings any new or mysterious variation this season, suggesting his bowling remains familiar.

“I don’t consider Ravi a mystery anymore. His abilities are well known after what he has shown over the years,” Mhambrey said. “Like any player, he goes through ups and downs. Some days work in your favour, others don’t,” he added.

The Royals have been riding momentum in recent matches. They produced a dominant performance against Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati and followed it up with a close win over Gujarat Titans away from home, marking a strong beginning to Riyan Parag’s stint as full-time captain.
